My boyfriend Christian and I have wanted a puppy for some time, but the timing didn’t feel right. So when we heard about a promotional event happening for this past thursday and friday at the Lancaster county humane league, we had to see if there was a puppy we liked.
All dog adoption fees were reduced to $.85 instead of the $175 they usually are! Their website said that there were 3 border collie mixes that I wanted to check out first because there were no photos of them.
Most people probably are thinking, why would they practically give away these doggies? The municipalities are supporting our shelter less and less every year, and because of increasing expenses they’re asking municipalities for $.85 per capita for their services.
Think about it, no one to call if you see a stray dog without a tag. No one to pick up stray cats. The community was really supportive of this promotion. We were family #7 waiting in line. I beelined in to look at all the pups, while Christian was waiting in line with our application.
Immediately I knew which one I wanted.
This is the first picture of got of him in the meeting room where we were able to spend some time with him before we confirmed that he was the one we wanted.
So far he is doing great with car rides. His favorite spot to lay is on mats by my feet when Christian’s driving.
After we got him I took him over to my sister Jen’s house to meet her dog Sadie. It took about an hour for him to fully get comfortable around her and wanting to play.
At first steps were a bit of a challenge. But now we seem to have gotten the hang of them.
His potty training needs definite improvement, but since he’s only 3 mo. old I can’t blame him. He loves his naps and is a total momma’s boy. He’s skittish around other pups but we’re trying to get him used to other dogs so that he wont be a grumpy pants for the rest of his life. 🙂
I’m sure you will all be hearing much more about this little guy! Here are just a couple more pics.
